On the opposite side, a handmade glass plate with wheat, symbolizing the harvest, a red candle and a lemon. On top of it I made a little offering of seeds, cinnamon and feathers and part of an House Sparrow eggshell, little presents that the birds that feed in my garden usually leave there. Together with her I was also offered a Crete plaque with the minotaurus theme. I didn't had the Crone statue at that point, so she was there in her place. The beautiful Snake Goddess from Knossos that brother and sister in law gave me for my birthday just goes too well with the harvest theme of the season, being an earth deity and all. I used some candles and objects that I had brought with me from Portugal or were offered to me, that would evoque the autumn colours and fauna, like squirrels, butterflies, hedgehogs, owls and mushrooms. At that time I was going through a tough period, looking for another job so the altar turned up very simple in nature. This was the first Mabon Altar that I've done when I changed to the house I'm currently in. Now is the time to save up for winter, and enjoy the last rays of sun and color. It's a time for rethinking aspects of your life so far, so that, like day and night, you reach a more balanced state. The green of the leaves is now changing into yellows, oranges, reds and browns. It's the waning of the power of the Sun God, the return of the cold. Night and day are the same length again, but from now on the night will become longer and longer until Yule. September 21st-22nd marks the second of the three Harvest festivals, in the Autumn Equinox.
